The ‘Future is in Sight’ project was a significant redevelopment of the Guide Dogs Victoria facility in Melbourne. The project aimed to allow clients with low vision or blindness control over their environment, particularly as they navigate the process of being matched with a new guide dog. The end solution needed to include user interfaces that were compliant with the standards set out by the Australian Braille Authority (ABA). Lightmoves is proud to have worked with FPPV Architecture and Guide Dogs Victoria to tailor the space for its visitors. The Guide Dog Victoria facility needed the ability to dynamically change the lighting level presets in the living facility depending on the vision impairment of each resident. The facility has a high turn over of vision impaired residents who live at the facility short term while they are matched with guide dogs. Via a PDEG and internal web pages the Guide Dog team can change and save the lighting levels depending on the needs of each guest. Guide Dogs Victoria required each user panel be labelled in both English text and braille. If this was not possible the Dynalite system would have been rejected by the Architect and Guide Dogs Victoria. The Philips Dynalite lighting system provided included customised lighting presets to meet each individual’s needs, ensuring users have autonomy and control over their surroundings. The solution provided included 43 Philips Dynalite Antumbra Magnesium Panels, each featuring Braille text that clearly identifies various lighting states and presets. Users typically stay at the property for a number of weeks at a time before someone else moves in so it also needed to be simple to use.
