Recently the Crown Casino in Melbourne decided to purchase it's own lighting equipment for their Showroom rather than continue to hire gear. As full moving light rig was the plan, Lightmoves was approached due to its expertise as a supplier of lighting products and system solutions.
"We put forward a proposal based on the knowledge that they wanted to minimise the number of analogue lights in the rig," said Joe Casamento, Project Manager. "They wanted a moving light that could project gobos, do full-colour mixing and that was bright. That's why we recommended the Clay Paky Stage Line. At the time they were only one of two 1200W moving heads available on the market.
"Crown Casino also own Golden Scan HPE's so they were used to the Clay Paky quality and reliability. However, we still had to prove that Clay Paky was the best option." Show Technology, Clay Paky's Australian distributor, assisted their dealer in a number of demonstrations.
Working together, Lightmoves and Show Technology set up the Clay Paky Stage Line fixtures to be compared with the other contender, a Coemar fixture. The Clay Paky fixtures emerged as the outright winner.
The Showroom is used for a wide variety of functions including fashion shows, concerts, theatrical productions, cabaret and even kick boxing. There was never much time for the change overs so Gary Rappel, Production Manager at the Showroom, need a flexible moving light rig.
"In all there are 16 Stage Zoom 1200's and 8 Stage Color 1200's with the added bonus of the interchanging heads," said Joe. "If they need to change the number of zooms and washes, they can do so easily. If they ever wanted to have more colours they can simply buy the new colour head to fit the existing luminaire. It's a flexible fixture for a room that really needs flexibility. "I needed a top of the range, fully featured fixture with a high output," said Gary Rappel. "I got that but what really sold me was the quality of the optics. The colour mixing, prisms and movement is also very good."
Crown Casino also purchased two Shadow long-throw followspots to link up with the rest of the moving light rig. They have proven very popular with the followspot operators due to being user-friendly, said Gary.
